Constable Ruben C. Tejeda is responsible for serving Precinct 1 of Bexar County. Precinct 1 consists of approximately 1,247 square miles, 8 school districts and is surrounded by Medina, Atascosa, and Wilson counties. The Constable’s Department serves Precinct 1 with 56 certified peace officers including 22 constables and 34 reserve support staff.
The primary duties of a Constable and his deputies are to deliver and execute civil
process papers to include: criminal warrants, subpoenas, forcible detainer suits,
small claims and different types of writs such as possession, garnishment, and sequestration. Duties
also include enforcing local, state, and federal laws.

the following programs to deter crime.
DARE – Drug Awareness Resistance Education
D.A.R.E. was founded in 1983 in Los Angeles and has proven so successful that it is now being implemented in 75 percent of our nation's school districts and In more than 43 countries. The highly acclaimed program that gives the kids the skills they need to avoid involvement in drugs, gangs, and violence.
ASAP – Absent Student Assistance Program
Deputies work to identify truancy problems
and find remedies to help students stay in school. This program works with schools
to address truancy and helps districts to gain revenue by encouraging attendance.
S.O.S. – Save our Students is an initiative of the ASAP program which encourages the community and local businesses to report truancy to Precinct 1.
Both the Drug Awareness Resistance Education (DARE) program officer and the Absent Student Assistance Program Officer (ASAP) officer are present in area schools to implement a drug awareness and resistance program in conjunction with school administration. These officers will rotate within the 8 school districts in Precinct 1.
Bike Patrol
In an effort to better serve the County of Bexar, the City of San Antonio,
and the 8 local School Districts, the Bexar County Constable's Office, Precinct One
implemented a Bicycle Patrol Unit. Since It's inception, the bike patrol unit has
grown to 12 certified riders. Bike Deputies patrol as needed and as requested by
the Constable.
The Bike Patrol Unit's goal is to provide our residents and visitors
with an unsurpassed level of expertise and safety. They embrace the idea of community
policing by making themselves more approachable and accessible to the citizens of
our community. The Bike Deputies' primary responsibility is to facilitate positive
deputy / civilian relations by interacting with the general public on a daily
GREAT – Gang Resistance Education and Training
Established under the Department of Justice this program is an effort to combat gang activity and increase awareness of “bullying” in schools.
Explorers Program
Committed to encouraging youth in Precinct 1 to pursue careers in law enforcement, the post 1518 Constable Explorers provide training in law enforcement for high school students.
